
Local performers partner with businesses in downtown Port Huron to raise money for LGBTQ resources.
Spa Moët’s Holiday Show brings drugs, burlesque and food all together on December 17th from 7pm to 9pm at Moët’s Corner Deli on the corner of Military and Water streets.
Tickets for the show are available on Eventbrite and cost $35. Tickets include a meal of soup and salad each drag named after his queen. Due to the limited number of seats, there are only about 40 tickets.
Performer and event organizer Matthew Collins said, “What I’m doing specifically is bringing the world together, and I’m looking forward to bringing everyone together. As the drag queen persona ‘SupaSalad’ Also known as Collins, he will perform with his troupe, Haus of Salad, for the show.
The holiday-themed show features five performers, four in drag and one in classic burlesque.
According to Collins, the performances will all offer different perspectives on the holiday, with one performance of Krampus folklore, for example, while another is “The Best of Mrs. Claus.”
“Drag is itself a mockery of life, a caricature of life, getting people to talk about important issues,” Collins said. “It’s kind of like watching a tradition and having a really great time while doing it for a greater purpose at the same time.”
Collins will donate all proceeds from the show to Detroit’s Ruth Ellis Center. The Ruth Ellis Center is a non-profit organization that, according to its website, provides long-term and short-term safe places and trauma-based information to runaway, homeless, and at-risk LGBTQ+ youth in the area. We provide support services.
Collins explained that she’s constantly reflecting on her own personal trauma and where she came from, and the recent Club Q shooting in Colorado Springs prompted her to call the event to ensure its “visibility and resources.” He added that it gave him more reasons to hold the . Port Her Huron is available to her LGBTQ+ community.
Shannon Raynard, owner of Moe’s Corner Deli, said, “This is such an important resource and I hope we eventually have something like this.”Spreading the word and showcasing talent I think it’s a good mission.I’m proud of everything that’s happening in town.I think it’s education and tolerance and a great way to bring people to Port Huron.”
Reynard added that Moe’s is a safe place for everyone and he loves the excitement and atmosphere there.
Collins is looking forward to seeing people from different backgrounds come together and enjoy an evening full of comedy.
