One of the best ways to get to know Pensacola’s food scene is to taste one of the local food trucks.
The third annual Food Truck Slowdown Hunger Games on October 15 encourages Pensacola to sample a few of nine of Pensacola’s most famous names.
Delicia Latin Food and Bar:Pass the plantains! Delicias Latin Food and Bar opens this week on East Nine Mile
Blackwater Food Truck Park:They have big plans along the Blackwater River in Milton, starting with a new food truck park.
Lineup includes 3-D Eats & Tea, Rolling Embers Brick Oven Pizza, Texan B’s BBQ, MELT Pensacola, Greek’s Catering and Events, Who Dat Po’Boys, Jordan Valley Mediterranean, Cèjo Food Truck, Empanadas N More .
3-D Eats & Tea owner and event organizer Sean DeSmet said: “Some of them I’ve worked with in the past.”

Instead of creating a “magnificent” list of food trucks for the event, DeSmet said he wanted to identify a strong handful of food trucks for customers to try.
The event begins at Pensacola Harley-Davidson, 6385 Pensacola Blvd. at 11am and runs until 4pm, with activities throughout the day including craft vendors, music and family entertainment.
For the past few years, the event has asked customers to rank each food truck they tasted on a scale of 1 to 5 in various categories such as food quality, customer service and cost. Hip Pocket Deli was the first year winner of the event and 3-D Eats & Tea was his second year winner.
But this year, DeSmet said chefs are putting some of the competition aside and letting customers do the competition instead.
Various challenges are planned, such as a big eating contest from noon and a karaoke contest from 14:00.
“This year, I’m more inclined to just have a good time,” he said.
According to DeSmet, the eating contest is timed and divided into children’s and adult’s divisions. Kids are tasked with scarfing corn dogs and slurping 3D sweet tea slushies while trying to avoid brain freeze. challenge to consume.

Each year, the event selects a different organization to benefit from the event’s revenue, DeSmet said. This year, Baghdad Primary School will be the recipient and hopes to support the teacher by making a donation to her PTA board at the school.
Over the past few years, 3-D Eats has worked to serve various community organizations. For example, we have served Northwest Florida Big Brothers Big Sisters, Habitat for Humanity Pensacola, Making Strides Against Blast Cancer, and local First Responders through their “Mason A Difference.” food campaign. Hunger Games events are the latest in a habitual giving lifestyle.
“We’re just trying our best and looking for different causes,” DeSmet said. “This is our business model and it’s giving back.”
If you pull up the event, customers will be charged a $5 admission fee upon parking, but will be refunded as a voucher to be used at one of the food trucks or entry into the raffle to win $500. The draw will take place at 3:00 pm. All proceeds from entry fees, as well as his $50 sales commission from each food truck, will be donated to teachers at Baghdad Primary School.
DeSmet hopes to raise a minimum of $2,000 for the event, but there is no limit.
