scooby doo Character Velma Dinkley appears to be a lesbian, according to a new clip from the franchise’s latest film.
In the new animated film in the series Trick or Treat Scooby-Doo! Velma seems to be romantically interested in a new character, costume designer Coco Diablo.
Velma is officially a lesbian.

Velma served as the love interest of fellow Mystery, Inc. member Shaggy Rogers in the 2010 live-action film following James Gunn’s series. Scooby-doo! The curse of the lake monster. Shaggy expresses his interest in Velma romantically, but the relationship does not develop as the two agree by the end of the film that they do not have the chemistry to agree to remain friends.shaggy and velma Scooby-doo! Gunn continued:
The film was originally slated to be PG-13, but was cut to PG after three parents were furious at a test screening in Sacramento. Did… language and jokes and sexual situations were removed, including a kiss between Daphne and Velma. But thankfully the fart remained. At the time I thought the rating change was a mistake…it felt like a lot of teenagers showed up in the first movie and didn’t get what they wanted (and didn’t come back for the sequel) I was. But I don’t know today. So many young kids loved those movies.
Sarah Michelle Gellar, who played Mystery Inc’s Daphne Blake, appeared to corroborate Gunn’s statement in a 2002 interview with Sci Fi Wire.
“We kissed. It was cut,” Gellar said in a statement to the outlet. It seems that they were unable to restore the soul within. And the way they found it was to kiss, and the soul returned to proper alignment.
“Like I said before, Mystery Incorporated’s Velma isn’t bi. She’s gay,” said franchise director-producer Tony Serbon. Mystery Co., Ltd. Series, June 2020.
We always planned for Velma to act a little out of character when she was dating Shaggy. It looks as clear as it did ten years ago. I don’t think Mercy and Velma have had time to act on their feelings in the main timeline, but they are a couple after the reset. You may not like it, but this was our intention.
