Wheeling – The Fellowship of Students, an interdenominational Christian club at Wheeling Park High School, has decided to hold a hat day on Friday to support Hurricane Ian disaster relief efforts.
Teacher Michael Lomick said one of the club members came up with the idea of giving students $1 to wear a hat at school.
“I am always amazed at the variety of hats. rice field.
This activity is not only fun for students, it also allows them to practice the Christian doctrine of helping others.
“We donate to the Red Cross because we can allocate it for victims of the hurricanes in Florida,” he said of the money.
Romick couldn’t count the money yet, but estimated there were about 120 envelopes containing one-dollar bills as of Friday morning.
Lomik said members of the club also raised money for Ukrainian war relief last year.
Having taught high school for eight years, Romick graduated from Park in 1978.
“I’ve always been proud of this high school. We have really good kids,” he said.
In addition to being an advisor to the club, Lomik teaches a dual-credit college writing, elective film studies class, and chairs the WPHS’s English department.
The club was formed by students last year and meets once a month.
